viewers here in the united states and around the world. we're watching some potentially significant developments in washington. yesterday we learned that a suspicious envelope did reach the office of a united states senator, senator wicker of mississippi. an envelope that was tested not once, not twice but three times and so far proven to be positive for ricin. but authorities say they need more testing. they're sending that letter to maryland where the u.s. government does these kinds of tests for suspicious letters. a lot of nerves frayed as a result of this letter. and now a second letter they have stopped. a suspicious letter similar to the letter sent to senator roger wicker of mississippi addressed to the president of the united states. that letter is now being investigated as well. at the same time we've heard of these evacuations and the freezes, if you will, from various senate office buildings. all of this happening in the aftermath of the boston marathon bombings. so nerves are frayed right now. everyone is on edge as the president of the united states gets ready to come to boston tomorrow to participate in an interfaith memorial service. let's go to the white house, brianna keilar is standing by. bria

precise, dana. tell our viewers here in the united states, and around the world, what you're learning. >> well, cnn has learned, wolf, that an envelope that was addressed and sent to a senate office was intercepted and tested positive for ricin poison. and i've learned that from congressional and law enforcement sources, myself and mike brooks, who actually got the first tip on this story. now, we don't know which senate office this was original hi sent to. but we do understand that this envelope was tested positive. and a first routine test, it was retested two more times, so it was tested three times all together. each time it came up positive. and that's according to a law enforcement source who said that afterward, it was sent to maryland on an offsite facility to do further testing. we should remind our viewers, after the anthrax scare back in 2001, in the fall of 2001, when a couple of senate offices received envelopes with anthrax in it, they changed the way that the mail is distributed on capitol hill, so they now begin for the most part in an offsite. so this was intercepted at an offsite mail facility, was not done -- did not make its way to the capitol. so this is the

an individual from tupelo, mississippi, we're told, the home state of senator roger wicker. actually, his hometown, as well. he's one of the people who got one of the mailings. we know of two suspicious letters, a lot of confusion at the united states capitol today. a mail delivery to the capitol has been stopped, while authorities try to figure all of it out. of the suspicious letters that were field tested, and initially deemed positive, one was addressed to the white house. another, an earlier letter, as i said, addressed to senator wicker. these are only field tests, false-positives are known to occur. according to law enforcement authorities, anderson, both of the letters were detected at an off site facility. authorities say there was a message contained in the letters. that message said, "to see a wrong and not expose it is to become a silent partner to its continuance." both letters we're told signed "i'm kc and i approve this message." the letters have been sent to labs for testing. there had been ricin false-positives in the past. anderson? >> joe, last night we w
